What does this extra leaf growth means?

I've attached a photo of my Krasnodar red garlic and as you can see on the picture, there are extra leaves growing. Is this normal or should I be concerned that the cloves are sprouting and the leave are making its way up? I would say more than 50% of my Krasnodar red is exhibiting this growth. Thanks!

Lol @ kristincarol. As you can see, the clove itself doesn't show any kind of growth. If the CLOVE is not growing, i.e., "dormant", NO growth! So, no worries! As far as storing is concerned, they're all gone/eaten/preserved before the year ends. :)

@ ilodato and @ cindy_7, thank you for appreciating the pics. I am using a Nikon D600 with a 60mm f2.8 AF-D lens. I might post some more pics just to document this 'extra' leaf growth. Oh, and I have a double clove there, too!

I would not be concerned. I have several garlic plants of different types that have a new leaf growing out at the same time as the scape.

Nice photo, well done! Been watching your scapes with envy. 'Music' is my favorite scaper, and still nothing at 38 degrees lat.

Means that they are starting the growth cycle again, imho.

Well I decided to do some sleuthing and "dissected" one. Turns out the extra leaf is just the wrapper of a clove that decided to grow a leaf. The clove is perfectly fine!

Sorta looks to me like your Krasnodar red should have been dug sometime ago, unless you have left the scapes alone to produce bulbils. If the later you can get new growth all along in there, but you will not likely get good storing bulbs from those mother plants.

Who are you to say "no worries?" The leaf growth means that the garlic is starting a new growth cycle, going for the vegetative growth again and it will not store well for you.
