Arborvitae Issue?

Live in Cleveland, OH - I planted these 2 arborvitae about 1 1/2 years ago. We had a brutal winter so I thought I might have a problem however I see growth on the back of the tree. What do I do with all of these brown pines? can I prune? do I need to do some sort of testing?

they are thuja ... not pine ...

give them a few more weeks ... and prune out the brown ... cutting back to a live part of the branch ... it will.. eventually .. fill in ..

brutal winter says it all ... and maybe snowblower damage on the side towards the driveway ... or reflected winter sun warming that side ...

very common.. here in adrian.. just north of toledo ... not all plants ... not GG .. but not uncommon ...

lack of being fully established.. might have increased it ...

dont see any weeds in the grass ... hope your lawn guy doesnt drift weed killer on them ... but thats another issue ....
