Latest Garden Project

I had a photo of the circle bed a few days ago, and I had an experience that must be similar to my DH's since he is a writer and says sometimes he starts writing and his characters wind up behaving differently and/or the story goes in another direction than he had planned.

I had my day planned and I started weeding and mulching the balance of the circle bed....then I decided it would look good with a rock border. The racoons had eaten the fish in the pond, and we aren't planning to keep it...so I decided to move the rocks from around the pond to the circle bed.

Since it was uphill, it was a pretty good job for this old woman, but I really like the way it turned out and intend to use some on the border of the rose garden as well. All these rocks were here when we bought the house, but hadn't had any kind of use...they were just in a place where once a flower bed may have been, but not more.

Here are a couple of photos:

That is the rose garden you can barely see to the left

That is a clump of Wild One blooming today; had the orangy edges as it usually does.

And here is the lavender:

I need to add a bird house, and Maybe a hanging basket for bright color...haven't decided on that yet. I have clematis but it is on the other side of the tree...

might do better to add one to this side...Maybe Rebecca, a bright red.

Nothing like a project that comes together to make you enjoy the garden a little bit more.

I like the rock edging, but I bet that was a LOT of work. Really sets the bed off nicely. I planted some lavender a few weeks ago. I had it several years & then it jus disappeared.

Thanks, Nancy, It was a bit of a struggle, but I have wanted rock edging for a long time, so it was actually fun. The larger rocks are still sown in the lower back yard. I moved them from the front to edge the pond originally, now, I am moving them again :(
I have had that for about five or six years, but the other two lavender plants didn't survive after the first couple of years. Need to try again

The rock edging blends well into the landscape; it defines without being obtrusive. Alas, our very cold winters have really done a number on lavender.l

Very nice and yes, rocks add to a bed but hauling them is never easy. I love going to the nurseries and seeing what perennial plants I can add or thumbing through posts from gardeners and seeing what they grow. I had 2 lavender plants. The one in my front bed died after the winter and after I cut back all the dead foliage from the other one in the back bed, it is now coming back.

Thank you for your comments. I like to have lavender, but our hot summers give it problems, I think. I really need to add a bit more of it. But I am pleased with the rocks...I have a heuchera that is out of line with the others, and I need to move it. You really see flaws in a photo. don't you/

I love the rock border. But they look big and heavy, so you must be very tired. :)

I whined a lot the first couple day...more sore than tired, Debra, but still, it was worth it.

Jean, you have figured it out I think. Just got to the sample at the top and start writing.
