I was looking at those too but I wouldn't know how to prep them for consumption... I know that there are other legumes known for their floweres that have edible pods but again, no knowledge on how to prep...

I e-mailed baker creek and asked if they would cross with ornamental(poisonous) lupines...he said there was no reason they couldn't..so be careful! Your first year pods should be fine, but if you save seed, I'd be nervous if you or your neighbors grow for the flowers.
I know in Italy they dry the beans, then grind them and use it like coffee.

I just found out that everywhere in Europe they are called "Lupini Beans"..so if you google lupini beans recipe, you will find tons of ideas. Also..googling just Lupini beans gives pros and cons on poisonous or not..but they are widely eaten in Italy, for sure.

Lupini beans are excellent! I eat them every time the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Italian Feast) rolls around in July. I think they soak them a long while in a salty brine.

I did order some from Seeds from Italy, I do have ornamental Lupines too, but I want to get serious about the Lupini seeds so I will rip out all the ornamental plants this fall, hopefully they won't come back, one kind did self-sow so I will have to remove the seedlings too. The flowers were beautiful so I hope the beans are worth it. Beans are my favorite vegetable crop.
