Crepe Myrtle Help

I do not have a green thumb and decided to build my flower bed. Long story short, I dug up a 8ft-10ft Crepe Myrtle from a relatives house and planted it in my flower bed. We tried saving as much of the root as we could when we dug it up. We used 2 bags of fertilizer/planting soil for trees from Home Depot and placed this under/around the roots. We planted the tree a month ago. We water the tree three times a week if there is no rain and it's in the 80's or higher. The leaves all fell two weeks ago and the branches look dry (I haven't broken one to check the center) and look dead. The trunk looks like it's still alive. I haven't cut back the original branches and wasn't sure if that would help with the tree. It clearly went into shock and I don't know what to do. ( I did till and mix the soil before planting the tree ) I don't know what to do, if I need to trim the branches or if this is normal.
