I have had peonies that bloomed the first year & others that took 3yrs to bloom. So many variables: type of peony, soil & light conditions etc. Be patient, if plants are healthy every year, eventually they'll bloom.

You may have planted some too deep. Check than there is no more than 1" (warmer areas) to 2" (colder areas) of soil above the crown.

I suggest you apply a bulb fertilizer (1-2 tsp) to the peonies that do not bloom this year early next spring when the peonies pips start to grow like about 1 inch. If they do not bloom for you next spring even after you apply this fertilizer, then you may have planted them too deep. In that case, you should dig them up in the fall and replant them at the right depth.

I have Peonies in a container on my terrace, that never bloomed. Two years ago I dug them, divided them and repotted the larger bulbs in the same container moving the buds closer to the surface. That summer, they finally bloomed. I was looking forward to another bloom this year but that was not to be. The blooms didn't develop. They had the same problem they did before, with buds setting, but then they just turned brown an dried up.

I live in Manhattan, zone 6-7 and we had a real cold winter so I thought that they would like that. My sunlight isn't what I'd like it to be facing North/West, but these plants did bloom once. do you have any suggestions of what the problem could be?
