So glad someone is finally planning before running out and purchasing furniture. Is a new rug an option? If yes start with the rug. Then your furniture and wall colors will come from it.

Have you tried your local Ethan Allen store? There are design professionals available to help you with the big picture of your room. Sounds like you could benefit by sitting down with someone interested in helping you create a "new start" for your home as you redefine yourself after your divorce!

Agree with comment abt a plan......an inspiration piece is a great start. It may be a room you saw on Houzz, or your own art piece, or a rug you cannot afford (it happens) but take a pix of it and use it to find one similar. Save the paint until you've gathered the bigger elements together to see how they interact. Don't be hampered by open plan. Haven't dealt with angled fireplace, but understand it can be a challenge. Keep all you choices together on a cardboard art board to see how the interact. Good luck.

Your entertainment center takes away from your beautiful fireplace. I would buy a large console for that wall with the tv mounted above or on top. If you get an L shaped sectional flip it the opposite way of what you have now. You could add a chair where the love seat is currently located. You have a beautiful space to work with. Love the floors and the big bright windows.

Here's a visual. You could do this with a combination of chairs and/or sofas if you decide not to do the sectional. This L shape will allow you to face the tv and the fireplace from the sectional. Then you'll have a chair to sit in beside the fireplace.
