I need help with a front door/garage door conflict.

We are currently shopping for a new exterior front door for our house because the current door was not hung properly from the beginning and it has dings and dents from the previous homeowners. We are on a pretty tight budget, as we're also replacing all the hardware in the home as well, so price is a priority. We chose a door from Home Depot today for $249, but upon getting home, I realized that it does not match the garage door that is directly next to it. If this were your situation, would you buy a door to match the garage doors panel design, or would you go with the new door and forget about the panel patterns not matching. We cannot afford to replace the garage door at this time. I welcome any and all suggestions for my predicament! Thanks! :-)

I love the new door you chose! My gut says that since they both have raised panels they will at least coordinate even if they don't match exactly. Do your other interior doors match the garage door? If so, that would provide continuity among your interior doors. I think it might even be refreshing that the two doors aren't exactly alike since they are so close together. Your front door deserves to stand out among the rest! Go for it!

I don't hink the front door needs to match the garage door. If you go with a steel door, they do tend to get dings & dents. If possible see if you can find a fiberglass door. They are unpenetrable & can mimic any style, surface or color. Good luck with your quest.

Thank you for your suggestions! The door we chose is fiberglass, so that's at least a plus! I just don't want buyers remorse if the new door clashes with the garage door. Did I mention I HATE that those doors are back to back? :-/ I hate that those doors are back to back!!! lol

Both doors have raised panel design. So it matches pretty good for being you have 2 different style doors.

I would try to get them to match if at all possible without compromising your safety. We're big fans of steel doors as they're harder to break down.

Try a custom door store. We've replaced all our interior doors except the closet doors and went to a custom door store. We were amazed at how competitive the prices were, especially for the quality.

We are pretty set on fiberglass. I just don't know if it's acceptable to place the new door next to the old door, if the panel placement and style are different from each other. Thank you for your suggestions, but we've already paid for some of our installation at Home Depot, so we have to go with them, but we have a few days before the installation, so we still have the opportunity to change our mind. :-)

Doesn't code require the garage door be steel for fire protection? If so, I wouldn't sacrifice safety to match the entry door you've chosen.

I'm actually not replacing the garage door. It is steel though. I'm inquiring about the look of the two doors next to each other being tacky since the panel patterns are different. I don't mind that one is fiberglass and one is metal.

I suggest you consider painting the new front door a colour to make it different then it will make a visual statement that seems purposeful.

Debqhix, I love your perspective! I think that is exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you for commenting! You put my worries to rest. Joanne, I do love the idea of painting it a color, however, I'm not too brave in that department! We already have an accent wall and then the neutral throughout the rest of the living area, I would have no idea what color to choose! Lol I appreciate your comment as well. :-)

I have that same front door. Although the rest of my interior doors are not as close to the front door as your garage door is,they are the two panel doors and don't match the front door and It looks fine. I've never heard that your interior doors need to match your front door...lots of houses have custom or unique front doors that would never match interior doors. If you like the front door go with it, don't over think it.

I agree with sandradclark, the first responder. My husband, a builder, used fiberglass a lot. I have one on my cabin and with five dogs it's held up very well.
