Elly, you have a very traditional look with the red brick around the fireplace. I know it sounds crazy but painting the brick a soft grey will really update the space. Ask your local paint store for appropriate paint to use on fireplaces! Also, I agree less pillows on sofa and more texture. Maybe do all white pillows of the same fabric and do 3. Change the shade on the lamp to a heavier white shade. Monochromatic can be lovely but textures are the key. Get some glass vases and modern pottery pieces in that wall unit and less books, You need to pull the eye over there with some white and grey.

I agree with Lori! (It is a beautiful room that will be even better with a few changes.)

A round coffee table or large fabric ottoman.

Overall nice room. Another vote for a white lampshade, the yellow tinge doesn't seem to really play nice with the other colours.

There's something about the drapery panels that bug me, pattern is interesting but they look flimsy compared to the rest of the room furnishings, both in the way they don't really block the sun, and how they puddle at the floor (maybe they're not hemmed as of yet). Maybe look at lining them, or addressing the length? Or try something in a heavier fabric (still with some cool pattern or texture)?

I love this room & like to see couch face fp. Flank fp with the other chair. Everything is near perfect!

The shade might be ok, could be lightbulb? Maybe a black shade? I agree with brick on fireplace. Try different shape for coffee table.

I'm assuming you don't want to paint the built-in white to match to FP? The curtains are off but I think it is just the way they are hung. The rod is too high. It should be about 2/3 of the way above the window frame, then shorten curtains so they just kiss the floor. The fabric isn't heavy enough for them to billow properly. Too much stuff on mantle. If you want monochromatic look, take the picture and have it done in black and white so it isn't so jarring in room.

Thanks for all the advice. Yes, the entertainment center is being painted. Actually working on that now. I like the idea of switching out the lamp shade. And not sure about the furniture...I like it facing the tv for movies and such but agree it might look better facing fireplace. Curtains are staying. I'm hemming them but otherwise they will stay hung where they are. Also wondering if I should just pull in two couches identical to each other?? One facing fireplace and the other facing the mantle?
