Acacia

Thanks, are you able to say which one? I know I don't want much!

ETA found it! Acacia baileyana 'Purpurea'

Btw, since you and I are similar zones, I tried one in z8 in PDX and it died when the weather reached our minimum of 10F in Dec 2013. It was not quite that big but easily 15 ft tall and as wide. A very nice specimen reduced to a few pieces of wood after so many years of caring for it. If you must try one, be sure to wrap its trunk as so many people do with palms and maybe put Xmas lights in it during the winter to keep it warm. Some people around here cut theirs off each year, apparently, and it resprouts: this was not the case with mine. It really was the show stopper of the garden until it's death... Sic transit gloria mundi.

Thank you macranthos! Imagine how beautiful it'd be with white lights on it! How was the growth rate for you?

It grew a several inches each year until it's 3rd or 4th year when it grew several feet (like 7 feet). Then it slowed down vertically and spread out horizontally over the next couple years. A lovely tree and if I were even just a touch warmer or if I had a nice secluded microclimate on my property, I would try it again without hesitation.
