I would like to plant some elderberries, either as a hedge or as individual plants. I have been researching like crazy and am finding tons of mixed info on the varieties. Mostly I read that Adams and Johns do well together and Nova and York do well together as pollinator partners, but I read some places that York stays compact to about 6' and other places saying it grows quite large, to about 10' or more. Same with Johns. Some sites say it is the largest of the varieties and then another site says it stays compact.

Also, would Adams and York pollinate each other or are their bloom times too different?

And finally, does elderberry folliage have any fall color at all or do the leaves just stay green and then die?
