So, it probably won't bloom this year? The stalk isn't growing at all. I think I may trash this one.

Why would you trash it? They bloom once a year and now the blooms for next year are growing inside. If it didn't bloom this year, but it bloomed last year, it likely didn't get the proper care needed to produce blooms. If you are going to get rid of it, why not give it to someone who will appreciate the blooms it will give them next year. These are not like African violets that bloom all year long, but when they bloom they are worth it.

Because the stalk isn't growing. It turned brown. I don't think I researched enough to keep it healthy.

The stalk (scape) only grows when it's getting ready to bloom. Let the leaves grow all summer. Give it water and some good fertilizer. Late this coming autumn, stop watering the pot (put it away where it will be dry) let the leaves die back. In the spring pull it out and give it water again...and it may likely bloom again for you. They really require just a little care to give gorgeous blooms. Use some general fertilizer and you should be set. Where do you live (nearest big city)?
