What interventions would you reccomend apart from removing the affected leaves?

The cucumbers I have had so far have been humungous and delicious but I would like to keep them growing as long into the season as I can.

Powdery Mildew will be more whitish in color and dustier growth on the tops of leaves while Downy Mildew is more bluish/grayish and develops on the undersides of leaves.

Control of Powdery Mildew is often with 1 teaspoon of Baking Soda mixed in 1 quart of water or a 50/50 mix of fat free milk and water, or other and more potent fungicides.

To "control" PM, you must apply whatever product you decide to use at the very first hint of disease.

How long is your growing season? Perhaps you can start new plants.

I'm using Monterey brand 70% neem oil successfully to control PM this year on my Persian cukes. Works wonders on spider mites as well. Mix at 2 tablespoons per gallon and apply early morning or late evening.
