Update on backsplash--got sample

Hi all those who have been following my backsplash saga. I got the sample of the tile I am going to do behind range (condo in Florida, small U-shape kitchen with white cabinets). Here it is. Looks awesome. This is two pieces. They fit together like a puzzle. I think I will do the white subway shown as field tile and the tim on the left.

I am now considering this look instead of a rectangle behind range. How do you all like this look? I am not sure I love it, but I think it may have more impact that a smaller rectangle.

    1. I also prefer the inspiration over the smaller rectangle. Should look awesome!

Love the look. Spectacular even. Here's what I did a few years ago behind my cooktop.

While this isn't the same style as yours, it is the same idea in terms of doing the whole backsplash behind the cooktop, using a border tile and then using a subway tile for the rest of the kitchen.

cpartist, you are correct--a similar look. I am deciding if I go from the blue/white petal pattern directly into a white trim, or if I put some blue between. Your picture helps to visualize. Thanks.

Honestly kelleg, your backsplash is so striking, I think your first instinct to use the white trim is the correct one. I think a blue trim would fight the pattern. I used a color tile that was in my backsplash plus the tile followed the lines of the backsplash. Your backsplash doesn't follow the vertical like mine does, so that's another reason to go with the white. It will really set it off as the stunning feature it is. I can't wait to see it up.

Love your tile choice & I vote for the inspiration picture size. While I like cpartist's accent trim, in your situation I like the white trim versus the blue. Maybe because it is only two pieces of tile & I am not correctly seeing the scale, but the width & protrusion of the trim piece seems large next to the floral tile.

Very pretty! Agree with the simple white trim, done like the inspiration picture.

Have you definitely ruled out just doing the entire back splash in that tile? It's a small kitchen with not much backsplash space. I'd worry that two types of backsplashes would excessively chop up the space and be sort of fussy.

I like the sample! And I like the layout you have come up with, it's going to be really pretty!

Love the sample tiles. And the inspiration pic. Another vote for white trim.

Thanks, everyone for the input. Jillius, I said the same thing to my husband, that we should consider using for the whole backsplash. He feels it will be more striking to use an accent. I kind of agree. AND, it is pretty expensive tile. Doing it as an accent would keep the cost down. I appreciate the thoughts on the trim. It will be easier and probably cheaper not to do the blue trim in between. As far as the size of the trim, it is 1.2 inches wide. There is a trim of the same shape that is 1 inch. Maybe that would be better. I will see if there are any that are thinner. Also, I wonder if I need the trim at the bottom at the countertop. Do you think it will work ok if I don't have it? If the glass tiles hit the counter? They caulk there, right? I know they do, I just wondered if it might help to have a bit of trim before counter...

I agree with a idea of a more discrete trim if you use this tile just behind the range. Assuming you really need a trim. Hmm...do you? I'm not sure how to answer your question about if you need it on the bottom edge, given I'm not totally clear on whether you need it as a break between the subways and blue tile. I think the most subtle the transition, the better. I really like that original inspiration pic - and it doesn't appear they used trim? Cpartist's trim is also pleasing in sizing.

In your inspiration pic, I see trim on the sides of the accent tile but no trim on the bottom where the tile meets the countertop.

Definitely the larger rectangle if you don't want to do the whole thing, which I can understand, although it would be stunning either way.

I don't think you need the trim on the bottom if you're having your range hood enclosed. Just trim the sides.

Mine was open so the top of the tile was seen and i felt I needed to frame top and bottom too.
