It is probably completely a Brassia, just perhaps a Brassia crossed with another orchid Genera in the Oncidiinae sub-tribe.

Wow. How did you get that to bloom? I have an Aliceara that I have been trying to get to bloom, it's a Brassia intergeneric.

I have an outdoor shady wall I hang it on until it blooms and then I bring it inside. I live near San Diego.

I just set mine out on the east porch, hoping this might help with the lower night temps. I live in Nebraska, so this is a challenge. I will have to bring it inside by July as it gets too hot here, then maybe set it back out in late August/Sept. Hope this helps.

I've got the same one from Trader Joe's. Bought it this past autumn in bloom and it's spiking again :)

Does your Orchid from Trader Joe's have a tag? I suppose not.... Anyway, I am thinking it is more likely to be a Brassidium (Brassia x Oncidium) than purely a Brassia Hybrid.

susabanana, how do you take care of it in the winter, do you have a greenhouse? My orchids sit on a south facing window sill all winter.

I have a sun room that is attached to my house. It has it's own heater and I keep a humidifier in there as well. I like the same climate as the orchids, so in winter we all hunker down in the sun room together and dream of spring :)

thanks, just curious. I assumed you got snow in your zone. Mine are in the dining room and we keep our house warm. Enjoy my phals blooms in January and Feb.

We get LOTS of snow. 8 feet of snow this past winter to be exact. Far too much snow for me :(
