I have a planter area in the front of the house that I'm trying to figure out what to do with. I'd like to add a couple banana plants to the back yard, and wondering if one might also do well in this front planter. It had two large palms, but one reached out too far for sun I believe, and eventually got too top heavy then, and fell over and broke. Can see the cutoff stump on the left in the attached photo. I'm in a 9b zone I believe. The attached photo was taken in a mostly southern direction. This area gets mostly shade, and a slight bit of sun along the pathway. The sizing - 4' from brick to window, 6' from pathway to wall, and about 15-20' wide probably. Love the palm, but I think it's probably time for it to go and re-think the planter overall, which I'm working on now.

Can I put a banana plant in this kind of area?

Or will the roots start causing problems for the house and/or hardscape pathway?
Or too close to the house?
Too small a space to put a banana plant?
If it has to grow about 8' before it gets much direct sun, is that too far?
