Hummingbird Garden

Such a tiny thing

All the pictures of hummingbirds are so deceptive about the size of these little guys. I was out on the deck when one came to feed, so I stood still. He was app 2 feet away. He (yes, red gorget) was so tiny, slender, about the size of two joints of my little finger. A thumb would have been twice the size!

You mean those pictures like this one?

But you are right. The juvenile birds and the minis, such as Calliope hummingbirds, are so very small! Adorable creatures, aren't they? I love those close encounters. The "giant" fellow in the photo is an Allens.

LOL, gyr-falcon. Gorgeous picture. I love the pictures, every single one. But it seems my mind changes the scale that little bit so that a real one really does seem so small.

And yes, they're adorable.
