Deer eat Salvia?

Can hardly believe my own eyes. Yesterday evening planted some in-bud Salvia Summer Jewel on the patio down below. This evening they had been mowed down to three or four inches. I've always found pungent plants to be left alone, maybe Summer Jewel leaves don't smell enough?

Anyone else had experience with deer eating Salvia? How about Salvia elegans, pineapple sage?

Also, if I put cuphea down there, will they eat that?

Unless your deer are very tiny, and hover you're in the wrong area.

Sorry, grbeef, I didn't understand the wrong area part. Can you explain? I wanted some red salvia down there for my tiny hoverers, but whatever ate those salvia had big strong teeth.

I have lots of other salvia, and never had them take a bite. Maybe Summer Jewel has had the pungency bred out?

Sorry, misunderstood your question, thought it was about Deer! Haha. There is a salvia section on houzz, you might try there.
