Are they still getting enough sun?

The spots sometimes means you have the iris boarer

Did you have a late cold winter? Are they delayed?

I know here (central NY, near Syracuse), we had several late freezes. My irises that are up our little hill are still small and haven't put on a show. I'm hoping they might be late. They do still look healthy so I'm not going to worry about them. They might be a no show as far as blooms go this year.

They might need to be fertilized this yr.. irises are really heavy feeders. If this is not a yr to divide them I would try giving them a little fertilizer... 6 12 12 or 5 10 10 6 a little this year and then again this spring about 6 weeks before bloom.. As far as the spots, if they are little brown spots they could be a sign of leaf spot.. If you have had a lot of rain, and the irises are crowded, leaf spot can occur. It will not harm the irises, but will make them ugly and it wont keep them from blooming..

Thanks for the replays. I have about 80 different patches of Iris and out of those about 25 had no bloom and a number more only had 1 or two blooms.. I did fertilize them this spring with the fertilizer from Schreiner's Iris garden. I was out of town for three weeks after I uncovered them in April and as I understand it we may have had several nights below 32 so that may have been the problem.
