Which bedroom set?

Here is our new master bedroom. This is the previous owner's stuff. So we are literally starting from scratch !

I really love the mirrored bedroom sets so I have narrowed it down to the following two bedroom sets

Mirrored

or

Black/Mirrored

I have not chosen a bed yet. Not sure what would go great with either one?

My husband also wants a dresser so I may be leaning towards the black/mirrored set? but is it possible to still have a dresser for the all mirrored set it does not come with one? I am just thinking everything will be too mirrorISH

Any design concept or furniture placement assistance would be much appreciated because I have no style lol please help me if you have any ideas !

Thank you !!! =)

I would not over do the "mirrored furniture". A little goes a long way. Plus you want to choose a special piece and let it be a focal point. Too much matchy/matchy will quickly look dated. Your room does not look that large so you don't want to have so much going on that the room is difficult to navigate.

Here is a link to some really beautiful mirrored pieces.

I agree with the previous posts. One piece might be okay, but no more. I do not think that the mirrored furniture will stand the test of time. It will be " dated" soon.

HI -- It is not in fashion to buy " sets " of furniture . So don't buy a set of bedroom furniture . Find a bed and get a headboard , then find a dresser and the maybe mirrored bedside tables and they don't have to be a matching pair but just the same color etc.

Agree! Upholstered headboard; you can often find rejects at upholstery shops for a good price or you can make your own; Consider a tall dresser with small mirror over it for Hubs. You have anice long wall for the bed and night stands I would consider a wide bachelor chest which can be 36 inches wide and tall. Put a pair in the bedroom, one mirrored and one not mirrored, nice if it was a piece that matched the tall dresser for hubs. Also just look up mirrored nightstands in master bedrooms and you will get a feel for what you want and what type of design you want thte room to go in. Good luck.

I think either one would be fine, but I agree with buying just that one piece and then different non-mirrored pieces for the rest.

thanks a lot guys you saved me from making a costly mistake of buying everything matching

so this is what I decided

    2 mirrored nightstands
    taupe or grey upholstered bed
    dark wooden dresser and mirror

can I throw in a mirrored vanity or am I getting overboard?

    what color wall?

I saw some pinterest with huge mirrors behind the mirrored nightstands is that cute or too much ?

Personally if I fall in love with a picture I am all about copying it to the max! I figure if a designer did it then it must be OK? Haha.

But you have to be very careful about scale; ie the relationship between items. If the nightstand you are copying is taller than the bed, you need to find a night stand taller than the bed; not any night stand will do if you want a certain look. Also headboards are taller now at least 27 inches higher than the top of the mattress.

If you do a pair of nightstands that match you have created formal balance and everything needs to mirror itself.

If you do mismatched nightstands then nothing matches but scale and size do need to match; weight, height, etc. Candice Olson does mirrored nightstands beautifully. Try looking at her bedrooms on HGTV.com.

Top pic is one of Candice Olson's bedrooms. To give you an idea it is 800 square feet in size and has pretty much everything! haha! You cannot see it but the nightstands do not match, the one on the left side of the bed is wood, but just as big as the mirrored one on the right. I saw the show about this bedroom a few years ago. But because they do not match Candice put a mirrored vanity under the bay windows. So in this room everything that is sparkle or bling has something that is not sparkle or bling to keep things in balance.

The middle picture is formal balance and comes together nicely

The third picture is asymetrical balance; you see opposite nightstands, the tall pic balancing the window, the painted wall and mirror balancing the window and curtain wall. The clock, headboard and lamps all are mirror images of each other with everything else being balance but different.

Next pic is same room to see all the balance and asymetrical balance.

Last pic refers to your mirrors behind lamps comment!

One of the nicest things about HOuzz is that you can hit the more info icon and it will take you to more pics that expand on the pic that is posted.....so cool for other ideas and room completions or questions you might have!

Hope this helps you to get the look you are seeking? Again just ideas that come to mind. Thanks for listening.

    lovely pictures !

How do you feel about these nightstands? I like the chest and the other item but not sure if that's too many mirrored items
  • 11 years ago

My suggestion is to get the mirrored dresser and that's all. It is a large piece and will make the statement you are looking for. Keep the nightstands simpler. I would look at upholstered headboards and maybe and wood nightstands. Some beautiful bedding.

    Try these out

    only in white

    a chandelier

Paint the walls soft grey or blue.

I vote for night only one mirrored and wood elsewhere, but again your choice! Buy one mirror and one wood and take it home, if you want more buy another one.
