why are you standing in an Euonymus box.. and not looking at all the options otherwise available ... ???

besides.. you already have MANY of manhattan.. why plant more ...

this falls in nicely with the thought of diversifying a planting.. so when a plague rolls thru ... you dont lose everything ... and scale on Es is a known unending plague ...

Good comments ken. I have a very windy site near the great plains and evergreen options are few. Winter desiccation on this site kills holly, boxwood, hemlock and many others. I have tried them all and the only broadleaf evergreens that have lived are bayberry and euonymus. I am max'd out on yews and juniper shrubs are not to my taste. I have no desire to fight scale on more plants, but would like to use Chollipo if others have not seen scale on it.

There are many varieties and species of Euonymous. Which have you tried?

You don't say where you live or your zone, so it may be that Chollipo will winterkill in your region like other BLEs. Scale tends to attack weakened plants. If your plants are weakened by cold, they would likely be more vulnerable.

I am in zone 6 in KS. I have been amazed at how quickly scale exploded on my run-of-the-mill euonymus last year after 6+ years of looking great and being very healthy with no care beyond gentle trimming and watering in drought.

I am amazed that you get bayberry and Manhattan Euonymous to stay evergreen in the type of climate you are in. I'm in 6b, in southern PA and Manhatten Euonymous most often browns out its leaves and looks terrible by February. That link to the Chollipo on Monrovia states a zone 6 tolerance. That would be too close for me to chance especially if you are going to put it in that windy, exposed site you mentioned.

Yes, my bayberry and Manhattan Euonymus have always looked great with no winter burn.
