You're off to a wonderful start! Have you considered doing light brown glass subway tiles? It adds a more reflective quality than the tile, so it doesn't get too dark. Alternately, white subway is classic, and you can personalize it with your own accessories (and change them out without breaking the bank). Good luck! --Jen

Your kitchen is very similar to mine. I also have white cabinets and dark wood floors. My counters are marble with white and grays. I considered white subway tile, but decided that it was a little too boring and I also felt like I needed some texture and color. Money was running low so I popped over to my local home depot and found the backlash in the attached pictures. It's mosaic stone-type backsplash. It gave the space some texture and the pop I was looking for. It also brought in some grays. Sorry--I can't figure out how to flip the pictures on here. Good luck!

This backsplash is very lovely & textural, however remember what your backsplash is supposed to do: Keep the grease & mess to a minimum & it really needs to be easy to wipe down with a wet cloth. Hence, this is why so many choose subway tile.

You could go with a light brown however that somewhat limits you I think. I still think a creamy off-white will look & work the best for you. Also, please consider going with a lighter wood floor, unless you plan to sweep & clean every day. Every little peice of lint & dust will show on a dark floor.

Take a look at the new porcelain rectified textured 12" X 24" tile in a wheat or beige color. Again classic, timeless look. Do both in a running bond horizontal tight installation with less grout lines. The subway tile you could grout with a medium brown to make the granite pop & the floor go with the same color as the tile. Consider it. What do you think? We are here to give new ideas.

As far as the soffits go, you want to brighten & lighten the room. Please do not draw attention to the old bulky soffits by painting them to stand out.

I just finished up a beautiful kitchen with Lennon Granite. As a contrast to the white, we chose the darker colors of the granite with this beautiful tile that has a metallic sheen. Good Luck with your project!

What did you end up picking for your backsplash? I just had the same granite installed and am having trouble picking a backsplash. Also I'm having an issue with my granite turning pink all over. Did you have any issue like this?
