We have a walk-in closet in our master bedroom that has storage space above it, however without pulling out a ladder each time (and possibly scratching the trim work) we are unable to access this additional storage area. With our cathedral ceiling, there is no issue with clearance once on top of the closet, just a pain to get up there.

I'm thinking we could have a shelf built-in made that would also provide steps, so looking for ideas or alternative options from the community.

The wall I'm thinking of using is ~65 1/2" wide and ~103 1/4" tall.
