What mix are you using? Is that CHC in the background?

Yes in the background you can see the coco husk coir pieces that I use as the base for my media. For this particular mix I used a 5:2:1 ratio coir:grit (cherry stone #2):floor dry. I didn't use any perlite in this mix because it tends to get crushed into more granular pieces which would be even more messy with the net cups. I expect that these will require more frequent watering than the seedlings I have in community trays. Time will tell!

Great idea and I cannot wait to read how your experiments works. My only concern would be the roots would wind around the netting/holes and in order to up-pot them you will need to tear or cut the roots. Perhaps I am way off base. It definitely is a great idea to lend aeration to the roots.

So here is the update on my net pot experiment. Normally I have to water the seedlings once during the week then again on the weekend. This week those seedlings in the net pots got watered 3 times! I can see why they are sucking up water (and it is evaporating), because they have been busy pushing buds! Lots of little red buds coming in as secondary growth. So far, so good.

I wanted to post an update on my net pot experiment. About half of the seedlings had to be repotted because they were not happy. The leaf edges were browning, leaves would turn yellow, the caudex looking dehydrated, etc. I found it extremely difficult to keep these happily watered. Perhaps I should have used a different media. I made up the gritty mix for this batch which in my opinion requires watering too frequently for plants this age.

Several of the plants are still doing fine in the net pots but based upon the root condition of those I did repot, I would have to give this experiment a big thumbs down.

Perhaps when the Adeniums are closer to adulthood and outdoors I can try this experiment again.
