Yes. The wood was probably just exposed to water.........as it is a natural material, it will culture molds and fungi but the vast majority of these organisms are harmless in a garden.

Black or gray molds are, generally, not the good guys. Cleaning that wood with a bleach solution, 1 part bleach to 9 parts water, would be a good idea although that mold most likely would not adversely affect your plants, That mold could cause you respiratory distress so it is not a good idea for you to breath it.
