That is a very small amount of roots exposed. I would not worry about it.

In the second photo it looks like some of the finer roots are exposed? Was this photo taken later? If so, I think you probably need to put a little more dirt down, and possibly put a think layer of mulch over those areas but not touching the trunk. Perhaps the mulch chips will help stop the erosion of the soil away from the trunk.

The two photos are of two different trees. One is Bloodgood and the other is a Dissectum Red Select. So, the top photo looks okay and in the 2nd photo, the finer roots should be covered and mulched more? It just poured rain again! I haven't been out there yet, but I'm sure more soil has washed away. I took a chance and purchased these two little trees at Aldi for $12. I've been trying to baby them and, so far, so good. Thank you both.

The up side is you did not plant them too deep. ;-) If you keep covering them, they'll eventually stay covered. That's what I'd do.
