It's an Adenium obesum. I don't know what color the graft flowers will be, they look very dark (which I love) and like they may have a white throat. I would be so blessed if I were to be bestowed such a beauty! I don't have any Plumerias but I love this thread....all the beautiful surreal flowers.

I LOVE desert rose though mine must be much younger than yours. I would love to see the flower!!!

I have not worked nearly as hard as you have, my dear sweet friend. I bought this one as a grafted plant back in like May, I think.

all in did was repot it, cut all the branches off and start acclimation it to full sun. Oh, and watered the blasted thing almost every day sometimes.

I'm wondering if maybe I haven't fertilized it enough or does that have nothing to do with it?

I see it has a BUNCH of smaller flowers, should I have plucked this first bud so I could have had a tree full of flowers?

Mine....on the other hand, still hasn't bloomed (Adenium obesum).

I think it's getting too cold. It's going to be the dawn and dusk shuffle for a couple weeks now, I guess....in and out of the covered porch at night.

I bought this one years ago and was told it was a Maui Beauty. It doesn't look like that is the correct ID, so I will now call it a NOID.

This bloom is off of a cutting from the first Plumeria I ever got. A freind bought is from Home Depot years ago. Still growing strong in Central Florida in December. It blooms like crazy and is very fragrant:

I grow most in 60% perlite 30% top soil and 10% chicken grit for weight. But here in Florida I water them once a day. The ones in Al's Gritty mix I water 3 times a day. I use spray N Grow once a week and every third day foliar feed Rhizotonic and BioBlast.

Once a cutting has leaves Rhizotonic and BioBlast really help them get a very dense root ball fairly quickly in the FL sun. I have had several cuttings I potted in March in 1 gal pots root bound by June then repotted into 5 gals and then in Nov rot bound in the 5 gal pot.

Jealousy/Envy is one of the classic, Seven Deadly Sins, and I have it, in spades! What a beautiful display of beautiful blossoms. I want to grow them all....but living in New York City, how likely am I to get some great looking blossoms and colors?

Many thanks for sharing photos of your plants and blossoms. As a newbie, it is very helpful to see these examples of flowers (without photo-shopped colors, etc.)

Just wish that some descriptions of plant characteristics, and performance, would have been included....like, e.g....."difficult to root", "slow grower", "weak growth", "robust, thick leaves", "prolific bloomer", "prone to insect attacks", etc.

Few Plumeria web-sites give this kind of information.

Bronxfigs, people grow plumeria even in Canada. You just put it in a closet when it gets cold, before any freeze. When it's warm again you can put it back outside. Very little care when dorment.

If you're just starting I'd recommend ordering some rootted cuttings. Grab some once it'll stay above freezing. When you're ready, you can eventually try your own cuttings. But a cutting that has already rooted might be easiest way to start.

there is no reason not to give plumeria a try - even in NY. People grow them around the world, even in Alaska, Denmark and Norway. NY has warm and humid summers and a decent fall in most years, so I am sure they'll do great there when you have the possibility to keep them away from freezing in the winter. During that time, they also require little to no care, so that's definitely a plus.

Some good starter plants are Dwarf Singapore Pink (evergreen), Divine, Penang Peach and California Sunset, Elsie or Thumbalina to name just a few. All these plants are short and stout growers, pushing inflos even on very short branches and do really well in northern climates, without taking up a lot of space. Divine and PP/California Sunset are probably among the easiest varieties to see blooming prolifically.

Thanks!! This one is my favorite. It grows slowly, but it is always a good bloomer. I took 4 large cuttings off of my large tree last year. All cuttings took off and they should all bloom in the next few weeks.

A. obesum - Same plant as above, has been blooming ever since. Strange thing about this cluster, it's very low (just above the caudex) on one of the branchs. Popping right out of the side; between nodes. (3 flowers.)

The season has just started for me and I have a few to share. I'm in the first stages of bringing out all of my trees. It's been a cold spring here in Virginia but I'm seeing blooms already and lots of inflos.

Hi all. It is late Autumn where I am but my four year old seed-grown dwarf plumie, has finally decided to bloom. This is its first flower, which opened today. Love the colour and it has a gorgeous, fruity fragrance. Bought from a thai seller, the seeds were meant to be "Singapore Pink". Needless to say, I am very happy that I ended up with something else. It is definitely a dwarf, though. The plant is tiny.
