Soybean Meal is a source of fairly high Nitrogen and putting a lot around plants growing in a good healthy soil could result in lush green growth with few flowers or fruits, It just depends on the soil the plant is growing in. On the other hand a handful of SBM or so once a month may well be needed if the soil is not in a good healthy condition.

Keep in mind that nutrients, in the soil, need to be balanced. Excess amounts of nutrients can interfere with a plants ability to use other nutrients which can result in plant disease and/or insect pest problems. In addition some nutrients are quite soluble and can be washed out of the soil and into the ground water as pollutants. Throwing things such as SBM onto the soil may be necessary but may also not be needed. A good reliable soil test can be a guide as to whether it is or not.
