Love to see the fabric and sofa before commenting, but...no, if you love this interesting fabric I think it would be fine on the sofa. Go subtle on the chairs.

I have had a few chairs reupholstered and random is ok - it's when there is a definite center and both chairs don't match/line up the same is where there is a problem. I would think really carefully if that is the look you want for your sofa and would place the fabric over the couch and take a few days to decide. You can also always use the fabric for pillows on a plain couch instead.

I really appreciate your support with this upholstery decision. Here is what the fabric looks like draped over the sofa and the chair. You will notice that the color is different and I think it is because of the lighting in the two different rooms. The chair is in the den with softer light and the sofa is in the living room with intense natural light.

Good luck...I know where you are coming from as I have spent weeks looking for the right fabric and then crossing my fingers hoping the finished piece would suit.

This is a beautiful chair. The fabric is what I have been looking for but had no luck finding it. I would trade this fabric for the one I have in a heartbeat.
