Are you planning on using Wood or Vinyl replacement windows?

Vinyl windows, and now realizing I simply going to have find the money to replace next year. I discover mold inside the windows, they are painted shut inside and outside. I also notice that some of the trim in the inside of window is disintegrating.

That would be my recommendation - to get them all replaced. In addition to mold, since your home is 50 years old and the windows have been painted, there is the possibility that at some point over the past 50 years the paint used contained Lead.

There is a national EPA mandated Rennovation, Repair and Painting rule (RRP) that has been effect since 2010 mandating Lead Paint testing on all single family dwellings built prior to 1978, prior to the removal of windows, and includes several other trades where Lead dust particles may become airborne. I would recommend a good Vinyl window - Simonton, Polaris, Sunrise or Soft-lite. There are several other good windows depending on the region where you live.
