Help on laundry room layout

Our laundry room is currently drawn in at 8'1.5" x 14'. We would like to have this double as a mud room with cubbies right as you walk into the room. Please help with layout and what organizational items would be a good flow for the room. I like to separate my laundry into 6 different sorting options. This is new construction and only in drawing phase so the entire room is open for change.

Thanks

    Chelwa- Nice! :)

Another idea...also moving bathroom. Maybe something like this?

If you want a fridge or freezer in there too, this seems the time to see where it would fit. My architect drew the fridge in a spot that that I did not like, so I had him move it to a different location.

Lavender's option is interesting, but where would the doors to the laundry go? On the previous option, I'm not sure I would like tongi through the laundry to get to the bathroom. I actually like the original floor plan you posted.

What helped me when I was designing my laundry, I tried to picture how I use it, what I needed to store in there. Where I would like to store things. So I created a few zones. The 'house cleaning area' and the 'washing clothes' area. Where are you going to store the baskets of dirty laundry? Clean laundry? Haw many baskets do you need? Do you need to hang things to dry? If you have a large dog, do you need a doggy bath sink? How about a floor drain? How about vacuum cleaner, other cleaning machines you may have, broom, dust pan, mops, clothes buckets, cleaning products, etc. How about a power outlet inside the broom closet?

Just some ideas... ;) you have a good size area to work with! Good luck!

Thanks everyone! Like all the ideas and thinking of trying a combination of all of them! The architect can hopefully lay this all out. I like the idea of the deep freeze in the pantry. The area can be moved/widened to accommodate as there is a storage area to the right of the laundry that we can mover the wall into. Hopefully he can figure out a way to make a door for the laundry room.

    Thanks again

I'd bump the washer /dryer to the exterior wall. This means the dryer can vent directly outside, which costs less and reduces your chance of fire. And since the machines are the thing that'll bring you into the room most often, I'd place them dead-ahead of the door.

I'd also move the sink to the same wall. Consolidating plumbing is a big money-saver.

I don't know that you need a door on a mudroom/laundry, especially in that location. I'd just have an archway and keep easy access to bench and freezer.

But if you do, you can always add double doors that swing out of the way, when not needed.

I like the modification done by Lavendar_lass. We have very similar setup for our laundry / mudroom, our dryer vents out directly and the setup is galley style. This way we were able to add a full size closet. Our window is long and give nice natural light. We have not moved into the house yet, I will take a picture and post it if you are interested.

The setup is something like the following....only drawback is, if the bathroom is intended for the guests, then they can see laundry / clothes etc. from the hallway. You can flip the setup as a remedy.

Rniebrugge..we are in the same area as you. Are you happy with your architect/designer? If so, would you be willing to share his/her name privately? Congratulations on your build. Lots of good advice here.

Keep in mind with a freezer in there it will generate heat so having no door would be great for ventilation. We have a door and a chest freezer in ours and leave it cracked year round because of that. Didn't think about all the heat that thing puts out and we don't have any vents in the pantry for heating or cooling.

We have a fridge in our current home, in our laundry room. But we have a vent on the ceiling. It's never hot. I like having a door to conceal some of the utilitarian items, and to hide the occasional mess in there. Nobody needs to see our dirty laundry ;)

Venting is key. :) Ours is just pantry - locker area and laundry are in different parts of the house.

ILoveRed, yes I can share information for designer. Please let me know the best way to get information to you. Thanks

You definitely want a door to block the sounds coming from the dryer/washer. Also, if you are in the middle of sorting a week's worth of laundry and someone comes by, you don't want them seeing your mess if they need to use the bathroom. I really like your original one, I would put some sort of organization on the left wall when you enter for chaos containment.

Hi Niebrugge...I can message you. Autumn posted the directions. This is the post that shows how to change settings on our accounts in order for that to happen. Thank you, I know it's a pain :-)
