Put the TV on the blank wall and float the sofa so it can "see" both TV and fireplace.

We were thinking maybe square out the fire place and put the tv on the mantle or mount the tv in that blank space next to the chimney (but it would maybe be too high??)?

Do you have more photos of your room?

Do You think about removing or remodeling the fireplace and the bookcase or not?

Maybe a retractable support for tv would be a short term to solution, but if you thinking about remo,could have more options.

I don't have any more pictures of the room unfortunately. We didn't close yet on the house.

We definitely want to switch the fireplace to gas, and remodeling the fireplace is an option I'm just not sure with budget when or if that could happen. We really have no idea how much it would cost to reduce the size of the fireplace.

We would like to keep the built-ins and just refinish/update them but if we had to, we would probably consider removing them.

You might want to consider placing the TV above the fireplace opening. I would look at closing the fireplace in with sheetrock and leaving just the area around the opening with the brick. You could also take advantage of the sloped area on the right side of the fireplace by running the wall straight up and then creating a shelf above the slope accessed from the side for the electronics for the TV.

Byrne so you're saying use Sheetrock to create an almost carport sorta-speak squaring out the bottom portion of the fireplace and mounting tv to that/brick. Inside the "carport" have shelves and place media boxes, etc on them.

Will have to see if my husband is handy enough to figure/work that out!

Oh....or you'd box the whole chimney portion in with Sheetrock up to the ceiling? Is that what you meant?

This is what I had in mind. It changes to look and gives you one focus point in the room the fireplace and the TV. You can either go traditional or more modern or anywhere in between depending on your style.

I'm no chimney expert but first I'd have it inspected and clean. There must be deposits on that slope. I would attack this dilemma with a band aide- temporarily remove shelves as suggested to fit TV while saving money to remove all the brick and add a gas stove with the design surround of your choice.

Remove all the shelves and cabinets around the window. That would open up the the room. If not the whole display then remove just shelves including the scalloped wood above the window and paint the bottom cabinets white.
