A Few New Faces

At last some rain here, after less than an inch for the last 6 weeks.

Marie Hooper Memorial often has some thrips problems, but not this
year. Perhaps too hot and dry for the thrips. I like the way segments do
their different things on this flower. It is a bit smaller than usual
because of the dryness.

Hold Your Horses has not been a fast multiplier here.

Safe Island is lovely and reliable.

Calamity Jane (in a pot). Trimmers are questionable here.

Till the End of Time (in a pot). Sure that this one will do well here.

Sir Francis Drake blooming in a pot. Has certainly not been tested in the garden, but I have heard Northern reports that bud count is not good.

A nice superpetunia

Clematis Jackmanii and another similar one (too many plants on this trellis). I suppose because this is vertical, it will be huge.

Glad to see Till The End Of Time is doing okay for you. Nice pic of it. Glad your posting your experiences with some of the others and also whether they are in pots or in the ground. The clematis is gorgeous.

So glad to see you finally got some rain! You must have been watering regularly though, because your foliage looks so healthy and well hydrated. The beds I didn't water during our dry spell in May look awful, despite the week of nonstop rain we had. As I recall, Hold Your Horses didn't really take off multiplying well until the third or fourth year here. My favorites of these are two that I've had and killed: Safe Island and Till the End of Time. Both failed to survive in pots two winters ago. The big red eye on Sir Francis Drake is very attractive. I hope that one will do well for you. The clematis trellis is spectacular!

Calamity Jane is new for me this year and hasn't quite "caught" yet. Trying to baby it as much as our weather permits. I'm liking the color I see on yours. I also like Til The End Of Time. Pretty. The one that really grabs my attention though is your picture of Sir Francis Drake. Hope the bud count is not as rumored. It certainly stands out. Keep us posted.........Maryl

Debra, I did water a few times, and it was exhausting with other watering. There is some scorching on some plants, but generally leaf streak is not bad. Quite a contrast from last year when I had bad leaf streak: I blame it on heavy rains in early May after I had applied well-rotted cow manure and milorganite. I now suspect that milorganite must be used with care and can encourage fungal disease.

And thanks to Julia for Till the End of Time, a gift that she sent along when I purchased a plant from her. It has done well for her, so I am confident it will do well here too.

Pretty daylilies and others. I've never had that many blooms on my clematis. It's gorgeous.
