Fertilized when planted but it's only been 6 weeks. Soil with compost. Water every 3 days. I think it's either bugs or a disease of some sort as it keeps happening to all my plants.

Looks like it's in a pot. Is it?

In the 30-some years I gardened in Long Beach, I never saw or was told about verticillium in a home garden.

We need to know everything you know in order to make any progress with this.

Not in a pot, as mentioned above: "These are all photos of the same plant, in a bed. Planted about 6 weeks ago. Used compost, fertilizer, etc. And have been spraying with Neem and other "green" sprays like Kellogg's. No effect."

Also the plant next to it, in a different bed, is also now showing signs of the same problem.

I saw that last year on three of my cherry tomato plants.

I've been brewing aerated compost tea from my worm bin castings and a few other ingredients, and it has helped a lot. I've seen othing on the plants I planted this year. I do have three sprawling heirlooms from last year. (Black Krim, Cuostrolee and Carmello). They are mainly thriving but I regularly pull brown leaves off them. I'm hoping that it's a normal old age issue.

In any case, I haven't seen that stuff this year. I did refrain from planting in that bed however.

If I saw it now, I would try brewing compost tea.

It's not too expensive. The setup and ingredients... $100-150 if you are frugal, and it will last the whole season and in to seasons to come. And you can replace all your feeding and pest/disease control with it.

Are you in LA Louisiana or LA Los Angeles? Anywhere near Silverlake/Pasadena?

First I would first try an epsom salt spray to the leaves. If that has any positive effect, then you should also use SolPoMag for a longer-term fix. (Epsom Salt seems to work best as a foliar spray in trials as a short-term fix for Magnesium deficiency.) The plants might also enjoy a nutritious worm compost soil dressing at the same time.

Then, if that isn't the trick, try inoculating your plants (leaves and soil) with an aerated compost tea. That will supercharge the microbes and which will not only make more of the food already in your soil more readily available it will also fight off some diseases, depending on how good your tea is.

If you still haven't knocked it out, take the plant out and make sure you clear up all the leaves.

I'm close by in Mt Washington, and can help you sort out the tea step if you need help.

If someone else can identify it as a deficiency or a disease more confidently for Da Crane, I'd also love to know what it is. I suspect Magnesium deficiency.

I think Baby G might have the answer - spider mites. You might be able to see the little protective webs that spider mites weave on the leaves and between the leaves.

Stippling is caused by spider mites. Have you looked at the underside of the leaves? The leaves also look yellow. Spider mites

Bingo. Thanks guys. So what is the organic solution? I've just read this thread. The advice in LGTeacher's Calif Extension link seems easier. Are predatory mites an option here?

Guess what DaCrane? I just went out and inspected and found a new infestation in my tomatoes, as well as some black aphids... I think the spider mites might be permanently headquartered in my cypress trees.

I did a little looking. Most sellers of the Galendromus occidentalis (aka Western Predatory Mite) want $50 per 1000 mites. I did find one seller who sells 1000 for $12. Has anyone used evergreen growers? http://www.evergreengrowers.com/galendromus-occidentalis-412.html

Indoors, 2-3/sq. ft. every 2 weeks, 2-3 applications;
Outdoors, 2,000-5,000/acre every 2 weeks, 2-3 applications at the first sign of spider mites.

To be honest, I haven't had problems with spider mites, so remain ignorant on how to treat them, organically or otherwise. :-)
