Nice, tidy setup.

I wouldn't want to invite birds to live that close to my berries. You might eventually need to move the grass back one foot so that keeping it at bay will not involve the raspberry roots, but if you intend to let the grass come in, I have seen successful, fruitful grassy rows.

I think that might be a mason bee box. Nice set up though... I agree, get rid of more lawn and plant more rows of berries :)

Plants look too closely spaced.

@larry_gene. Thank you. Although hard to tell, that's a Mason Bee House in the picture. Yes, grass is an issue. It will require weeding but it wasn't too bad on our other rows.

@melikeeatplants. Thank you. If you are interested in the Mason Bees, see this link. I think we will plant a row of blackberries next :)

@drew51. I agree. They should be spaced about every 2 to 3 feet. I wasn't sure how many were going to survive the transplant so I over did it.

It won't matter, it will be all filled eventually, so now sooner than later!
I have a massive 24 foot row that is jammed. I am always removing canes it seems.

@drew51. WOW!

Ideal red raspberry spacing is 3-5 canes per linear foot, so in the picture above, spacing is about correct. Eventually, they will form a hedge anyway and you will have to start removing canes.

Jt, Drew r right, too many is not better...some of my newest varieties i was unsure of the growth habits and left too many thin, scraggly canes i thought would be okay...they all grew too many laterals and it's a wall of green now, hard to move canes and laterals without breaking stuff and losing berries.......i'm noticing immature raspberry plants don't grow really upright until they get older, otherwise the canes don't get thick enough to grow straight up, i'm gonna get rid of those this winter and leave only the thickest upright canes at about 5 per linear foot...they will fill in with many laterals......some of my Primocanes now are 5 foot to 6 foot tall and getting too big, i'm tempted to prune em now.
