I also pined for one for years. Finally had it installed and don't really use it. I find that it is a pain to "find it" and "turn it on" in the toe kick, and it seems to be more effort for me to sweep it so all the bits get sucked up than it is to use a dustpan. It isn't something I would do again.

I have a whole house vacuum and I had the toe kick dust pan installed in the kitchen. Frankly I rarely use it - in face it's so rarely used that there have been times people in our house have accidentally set it off and we're shocked to hear the noise because we forgot we had it. The reason why I use it so rarely is I find it easier just to use the whole house vacuum to vacuum in the kitchen instead of sweeping.

What I regret is that I don't have the kind of whole house vacuum that stores the hoses in the walls - I have to drag mine around the house - but that wasn't an option when I was building my house.

Sadly a Roomba doesn't work well in my house - but after all these years my whole house vacuum is still going strong without needing any repairs.

Oh well... we just finished dry walling and installing a whole house vac system. I should have done some research here before convincing DH to install it while we had the kitchen down to the studs.

Our cats make such a mess in the kitchen, I am desperate to find an easy way to clean up two or three times a day.

You know, now I'm remembering staying at a friend's beach house ... and she kept a hand-vac plugged into a kitchen outlet and used it instead of a dust pan. Hmmm. That could stay charged under the sink and do the same job ... for significantly less money, right?

Long live the dust-buster. *sob, ours just died.

I have replaced it with a Karcher electric broom. Karcher is a well known and respected cleaning brand in Europe, market dominant. I love love love love it. It's cordless (no docking station, small battery is charged by plugging to a wall).
