Hardwood floor in the kitchen is a common question on Houzz. Often with a poll. Hardwoods in the kitchen always wins.

This is a carbonized bamboo flooring, sitting water will damage any floor, cabinets, drywall, insulation etc..., for water spills if they are wiped off it shouldn't be an issue, just don't let water seat. design wise it is more accepted today to stay with one type of flooring throughout the house, rather then different flooring for different area's with small different in levels and connecting pieces, also design wise, wood gives a warmer feeling then tile or stone, whatever it is, it has to work for you and with the rest of the house design. good luck.
