While you seem dead set against a gas trimmer, you may wish to consider the advantages of a four cycle gas trimmer. Most of the problem you have had with the 2 cycle gas trimmer will disappear.

--- There is no mixing of the gas oil solution that a 2 cycle requires. A 4 cycle burn the same gas that you use in your car.
--- Without oil in the gas, the carburetor jets do not get clogged with oil so you have less starting problems, and long term maintenance problems.
--- There is no special oils, you can you use any SAE grade oil, natural of artificial.
--- In a 4 cycle engine the oil lubricates the engine and does not get burned, so spark plug problems disappear.
--- Gas stabilizer become much less important as there is no oil in the gas to oxidize and precipitate. Evaporation becomes a nearly a non issue as there are no solids when gasoline with out oil evaporates. ( I have never used stabilizer in the gas of my 4 cycle lawn equipment, and have never had a problem with gas. Even when I start them the first time in the spring.)

There is one last consideration, if you get hyper about air pollution, there is significantly less pollution with a 4 cycle that a 2 cycle, and probably not that much more than the system pollution required to charge your electric trimmer. (System = generation + transmission + etc.)

I have had my 4 cycle trimmer for several season now and when properly primed to get the air out of the gas lines, it starts on the first or second pull.

Whether 2 cycle or 4 cycle it still uses gas, that you have to store somewhere in a container, you still have to yank the rope to start it, still uses a spark plug to ignite it, still uses oil in some form, still emits exhaust, still needs a clean air filter, still must be stored correctly to not leak, still is really noisy, and, as you said, it still has to be properly primed, no air in the lines, etc, etc. No, I'm not interested in going down that route again although others may have a different opinion. But thanks for replying you make some valuable points, they just aren't compelling for me.

With Amazon's great return policies, you could always give one a trial shot and see how you like it if you are having trouble finding anyone with their own experiences. Just a thought. I would be sure of Amazon's policies first of course. I always check their reviews for user experiences before a purchase because there are typically a lot.

I use a gas powered trimmer attachment and while electric would be cool, I still need the gas for a mower. Not to mention the main tree at the front of the house, a gigantic maple, is quite the leaf dropper. All the other trees in the neighborhood are jealous but my back was not when I tried to rake up just that tree. Hence the blower attachment and boy did I feel like a kid on Christmas.
