Gorgeous! You could get this look through charring the wood, too!

Were the black and brown stains mixed and then applied. Or, were they applied separately to get the variation in color?

I'm wondering if you tried tinting the Eco Wood Treatment black, per their directions. I tried black tint from Sherwin Williams but it still seems brown over Western Red Cedar. I have one long board with lots of squares painted on it - I sympathize.

Do you think the Eco Wood Treatment is as long lasting as they claim. I am ambivalent about using.

Eco was planning on coming out with tinted colors… but i have not seen them yet.

I did not use black tint. We used two Transparent Stains to get the deep dark color. It was non equal parts of Brown and Black. We also made square sample with multiple boards to get a true visual of the variations from each board. We applied two coats. One prior to attaching the siding and one after it was on the house. I'm a fan of the Eco product as are many others in our town. Good Luck. I had a professional team PAV Painting do the work.

You're probably tired of answering siding questions, so sorry. I'm wondering if you even notice the effects of the eco stuff after two coats of stain? Is it the texture eco gives? I would imagine with clear cedar the texture doesn't change too much, its more just the weathered grey look. Anyway, doing samples tomorrow but thought I'd ask to maybe save some time. ahattar - The two reason we used the eco product was to minimize the bright cedar redish/orange color. It dulled the wood prior to staining. It also was a protectant to seal the wood on all sides helping to minimize moisture retention causing fluctuation with expansion. It has had very little joint separation. The added layers of stain provided additional protection. The backs of our boards were curffed (spelling) to eliminate built up moisture from occurring. Have fun - Good Luck

So all the stain was the same unequal brown/black mixture? It is so varied that it looks like different mixture proportions. But I guess wood is like that. Also, did you use a sealer after staining or did the stain included a clear sealer?
