Front door

I'm getting new windows and front door!!! The windows on the front of the house will be white framed casement. The front door is a single door with 2 sidelights. The door and sidelights are made of southern cherry wood. I'm between staining it a walnut color, a deep purple (if that's possible) or painting the frame white and the door purple. Anyone have an opinion? I love purple. I think I'd really like to find a purple stain, just not sure that it's possible. Ideas?

Also, originally the door has vertical panels on both sides. Like 6.5 inches on each side. I thought it made the door look too skinny. But maybe it's better? Hmmmm.....

Can't really help with colors but don't have a clue what "southern cherry wood" is. The cherry that grows in eastern North America is known as Black Cherry, Cherry, American Cherry. The other true cherry grows in Europe and known as Sweet Cherry, Wild Cherry, European Cherry. My guess is you are getting some low quality imported wood given an American sounding name for marketing purposes. Very common these days.

It's very possible. I don't have the money to spend 10k on a hurricane impact door made of expensive wood. This door is impact rated which is what I need. The other option for me was to get a single French door with sidelights made of bronze metal. I think this wood is the better option.

Just called. It's southern cherry from Brazil... Not sure the quality.

It's real name is Jatoba. Comes from central and south America. It is a low cost wood, even after importing. It is hard (dense), so that is probably why it can get a hurricane impact rating.
