Floor tiles - Wood-look or regular?

We like the wood look, but living in a flood prone area, we're not keen on installing wood floors. We're looking to install tiles instead, but wondering whether (good quality) wood-look tiles are a good idea or whether "regular" tiles are the way to go.

Basically wood-look tiles - Fad? Or here to stay?

It's the flood-friendly version of hardwood, but in a very traditional house it could come off a little "theme park fake" in my opinion. Can you give us more info on the house?

I don't have any personally, but love the look as long as grout lines are minimized so that it really does take on the appearance of real wood.

I don't think I'd call ours a very "traditional" house. It's an older ('81) split-level townhouse. We are looking to install tile in the living, dining & kitchen (all on the same floor), which aren't terribly large (about 900sqft). The carpeted bedrooms are all upstairs.

Also, the tile we like (American Estates Natural from Marazzi) has a suggested min grout line of 1/8". The contractor says he should be able to do that.
