I'm certainly no professional, but I've always snipped at *C*.

I always use scissors or pruners (learn from experience to not deviate) and I try to snip the *C* segment in half.

At point "C" there is a "knee like" joint that can be easily disjoined.

If the tomato is fully ripe on the vine, you can do it at "D" by twisting and pulling. But it may leas a scar .

My vote is for C. You can do D and sometimes it just happens when they are very ripe, but you risk making a little hole in the tomato which can encourage fruit flies (as if they needed any encouragement!) and rot, which you don't want if you plan/need to keep them for any length of time.

I'm gonna vote for Stop Obsessing Already as I don't think it matters too much. However, if A or B, I would use something to do a nice clean cut without damaging parent stem. Also, A would assume that all of the tomatoes on the truss at least have color and are ready to be picked.

SOA but if you can't help yourself, i vote D :-)

ONE MORE THING:

If you harvest a lot of tomatoes and pile them up in a basket, bucket, you should pick at "D". Otherwise the remaining part of the stem (sticking out) can cause injury to others.
