My Dutch Iris never bloomed and died ..... HELP !

I planted 12 Dutch Iris bulbs this Spring in containers. They sprouted green leaves, but never bloomed, and the green leaves just turned yellow and died.

I have never had success with Dutch Iris. I don't know what it is that they want or require but can't believe I just can not get these bulbs to flower.

Am I missing something ?

Gophers ate the ground-planted ones so I put new ones in 12-inch deep pots. Lousy luck. The 2nd year I repotted with fresh soil and had a little more bloom (this spring). Now they're going into 16-inch deep pots and new soil.

Dutch Iris should be planted in Autumn/Fall, not Spring.

They are not as difficult as some other Spring-flowering bulbs and I feel that as long as you plant them in the correct season, you will have no problems. Plant about 4"/10cm deep.

Dutch Iris bulbs are sold in the Spring from many Mail-Order reputable companies. . . and they are also sold in the Fall. I chose to buy them in the Spring.
