i like the color of the chairs in this dining set. will similar set fit in my dining area?
    nobody to help
I'm no expert, but I am thinking that the room is very boxy, have you considered a round table?
Thank you Turid, i guess i should consider a round table though i'm not fan.
I find that round or oval tables are much more suited for conversation! Plus, it's easier to fit more people around a round table. Try it, I don't think you'll regret it;)
do you want a formal room or more of a gathering place?
i am more into formal room with minimal furniture.
I have been trying to upload pictures from HOUZZ! just not working. I think your dining room needs color. What about a deeper gray color on the walls? A dark wood table with metal dining chairs....turquoise accents. A rug with gray, blue, tan pattern. Check out photos on the site using search function...if someone can tell me how to post photos from my ideabooks ican send some ideas your way
  • 11 years ago

Mark the size of the table on the floor to see how much space it will take up. You will need room around the table to push back the chairs without being crowded. If you want a formal dinning room and want color paint your walls a magenta. It will look fantastic with the gray. A wall hung side board will give you serving space but be minimal. White silk drapes. Beautiful art and a chandelier will finish off your room.

yes it definitely needs colors, i was thinking to put some baroque style wall paper on the same wall as the buffet. but need to decide on the dinning set first then based on that will pick the wall paper, curtains and rug. yes, its a good idea i will try to use tape and see how much space will the table take. thank you guys

Just a few different styles in a square space with a window wall. Hope these picture spark some thoughts and perhaps help you convey to 'Houzzers' what is "good" or "not":

    * overall feel: formal with minimal furniture

    * walls: paint? some wallpaper? colours? dark? light?

    * moulding: minimal? some? lots?

    * rug: bare floors? plain? geometric print? etc.

    * chairs: solid colour upholstery? printed upholstery? leather? wood? wicker/cane? 'set' vs. mixture of finishes? round or square back?

    * table materials: dark wood? light wood? glass top? other?

    * curtains: none? sheers? plain? coloured? print [large, small]?

    * chandelier: wood? metal? crystal/glass? coloured? modern? traditional? round?

i loove the color of the chairs but i would pair it with a black table instead of dark wood as even the door frames we have at home are black..am i right?
i wish this exact size of square table and chairs fits well in my room.

madame_posh, glad you found this helpful.

I agree that your table would be wonderful in black.

Oh, madame_posh, 'modern with a touch of baroque'! I am r-e-a-l-l-y out of my element.

Here are a few things I found. If I'm to help further, you'll have to post a pic or give me a tutorial!

The Palace Collection exemplifies the best of Old World Europe. Egg and dart moldings, rope twists, acanthus and tobacco leaf carvings and florets accentuate each piece; the Palace Collection has it all. These many exquisite details married with a rich brown finish on cherry veneers with gold highlights combine to create an ideal European environment worthy of the nobles of yesteryear and the sophisticated homeowner of today. Bring Europe home with the Palace Collection.

The Homelegance Dining Room Dining Table is available in Hickory, NC and nationwide from Hickory Furniture Mart.

I think the set includes: table, 8 chairs (you would need to have a different fabric), server with marble insert, buffet with hutch.

We live in middle east; just moved to ksa for a 4 years mission. Thus the new home. But still we would like to decorate/furnish it at our likings. At least we try our best to make it feel like home.

As for shopping online, i dont think i can get the same brands in here though most european ones are available..kare is one of my favortie with kitsh baroque style. iddesign is there as well and of course ikea and pottery barn.

Here is a picture of the style i am trying to achieve...and another one of our the dressing table corner and the bedroom (to have an idea of the overall feeling of the house) i am still working on all rooms simultaneously. Still looking for some pieces to hang above the bed, the right curtains and few cushions to trow some color. Needless to say that I am triying my best to furnish the whole home with style but on a budget.

Well, first, your house and inspiration photo are both great.

And, a 'mission'! Fantastic. My husband and I spent three years with Habitat for Humanity International rebuilding in New Orleans and other sites (MS, LA) after Hurricane Katrina. He was in construction and I was in finance. Best ever!

Okay, I'm going 'hunting'. I'll be back to show you what I find. (Obviously, none of the ebay finds will work for you.)

ok. i just marked the square dining table in the room. it's definitely too big for especially with a buffet there will be no room to move the seats especially on the buffet side. Unless we decide to put the dining table set standing alone in the middle without any buffet/console and just focus on decorating the walls. what do you guys think? or else opt for a rectangular table with a buffet.

    Madame Posh:

Don't know the size of your room. These furniture pieces are measured in metric. I've been in the U.S. for so long, that I'm totally inundated with inches, feet and yards!

If there isn't enough space in your dining room to have a buffet, would you consider a console table? If this is the wall that you wallpaper, you could hang baroque mirrors above the console table, and add a candelabra.

    Another wallpaper example:

    * I'm guessing that given where you live, that the rug choices are limitless!

    * So if the walls were in a shade of grey to match this wallpaper (or another), could you put a turquois rug on the floor?

    * Let me know what you're thinking.

Or, if you have a rectangular table, would you do two of these (one at each end of the table) and six of the other (three on each side of the table)?

    @sj james:

This is how I post a picture from 'Houzz'.

    1. Create an 'Ideabook'.

    2. On the bottom of each 'Houzz' image, there is a 'save' button. When you click on it a menu box will drop down. Choose the 'Ideabook' in which you want to save the 'Houzz' picture.

    3. When you want to share the picture with someone on the site, put your cursor in a new message box, or begin typing. Across the bottom of the message box, you'll be given several options. One says 'Houzz Photo'.

    4. Click on 'Houzz Photo'.

    1. That will flip you into your 'Ideabooks'.

    2. Choose the 'Ideabook' you want.

    3. Find the photograph you want to share. Click on it. Just once.

    4. That should post the 'Houzz Photo' into the message box.

    9. Advise: before you post a photo, write something. If you post the photo first, you'll only be able to type underneath the image.

    * Hope this helps!

    Madame Posh,

I'm not having much luck finding turquois chairs. But here is a chair from 'Williams & Sonoma'. On 'Alshaya' it says this store is 'coming soon' to ksa.

Unless you're happy with the neutral fabrics, you'd have to have these reupholstered. And most chairs are already so expensive!

Just a friendly reminder. When you're matching dining tables to chairs, it's especially important to review the dimensions.

For example, taller people usually prefer chairs that are 20 inches from the floor to the seat of the chair. Some people like chairs that are 'deep' and other, especially short people, find it difficult to sit comfortably.

You also need to add the chair's seat height plus a comfortable clearance for a person, and then be able to pull the chair in to the table.

Arm chairs are often not compatible with a table. If the arms are going to rub against the lip on the table, your table will be scarred from repeatedly hitting the chair, and the chair's occupant will be held too far away from the table.

Some arm chairs are styled so the arm is short and does not extend the full depth of the chair. These type of chairs can be used comfortably at the table.

    Madame Posh,

I just took another look at your dining room photo. Do you think you'll have room for 8 chairs? It looks to me (and, again, I've forgotten metric measurements) that a table, 6 chairs and a thin console may be the correct amount of furniture for your room. Just a thought. You'll know what looks correct since you're in the space, have "taped" the floor as Jean Benelli suggested, and know how much empty / unfurnished space that you want to have in the room.
