You have an awful lot of stuff on that small wall. I would move the mirrors further from the edge of the TV. and I assume if you are mounting it on this wall that the small rd mirror will be removed. I would take out the 2 wicker tables. . The console is ok, but wish you had one that was longer. If you take out the tables and get a longer console, and move the mirrors I would get rid of the lamps also. Or at least see how it looks before adding lamps

This console is 70" long, not sure how long your wall is or the width of your current console or your TV.

I have to agree with Susan on the longer console. I really don't care for the TV being flanked by those two mirrors though, very distracting! And The tables with the lamps don't seem to have any purpose at all so I would get rid of them altogether. If you want to keep the console and mount the TV above it I would move the mirrors to another part of the house. Hang artwork or something that is not so reflective or distracting on that wall.

The console is 5'w x 18"d x 22"h. The TV is 44"w. The wall is 12'w. I would like to have some lamps because it is a little dark on that side of the room. Yes, my goal is to get rid of the wicker tables which is what prompted my post. I had thought about replacing the console with one that spanned the entire width of the wall (such as the Logan base console from Pottery Barn), but wanted to avoid replacing the one we have, if possible. Attached for reference are a couple of other photos of the room.

lynartist - You are probably right and what I suspected all along is that a very long console is probably the answer. Just wanted to see if there was any other solution.

I don't think you have to replace the TV stand. Definitely remove the end tables/lamps. Do you have a table behind your sofa?

er612 - I wish I had room for a table behind my sofa, but unfortunately I don't. That certainly would solve the lighting issue.

agree with Lynartist,but i can understand,the tv is only on a few hrs a day,the reflection of the view is there more,instead of curtains as in the picture,how about wall paper?

i think that would frame it very nicely and you then have more of a colorpalet and style to work with to pull the room together...

I would move the accent chair that's next to the fireplace next to the other chair and remove the nesting table between them. Then add a substantial end table and lamp in the corner between the sofa and chair.

Also, move the white box to the other side of the TV console.

er612 - I have had the two chairs on the window wall with the nesting tables between, but tried this arrangement to see if it was more conversational friendly. We have always used the passage between the sofa and chairs to enter the room, but I'll give your suggestion a try and close that corner with a table to see if there is enough room to enter at the other end of the couch.

If you like it, then you can move the nesting tables to the other side of the sofa (but I would keep them nested when not in use). You could also put a small lamp on the table if you need light.

The room isn't wide enough for the chairs and sofa to be in an "L" without the sofa overlapping one of the chairs so there has to be a gap so that overlap isn't noticeable. I moved the chairs as er612 suggested, left the sofa where it was, moved the table under the window closer to the fireplace, removed the two wicker tables (which now expose the electrical cords). Haven't yet moved the white box to the other side of the console, but will do so when I want to deal with all the wires. I can see the value in moving the mirrors further away from the TV as susan2494 suggested. Attached are updated photos. Better? Other suggestions?

I would not advise you to replace the current console with the PB. You are only gaining about 2" and that cabinet is pricy. If you replaced with a longer console, it would make that wall more untied with the mirrors. Which I like. If you got a cabinet that was 70-72" then you could put a lamp on each end and have more light on that wall. Look at the one I posted earlier, it is very similar to the PB and I will show you a couple of others, that would be very nice. It is 70" and looks very close in style and is $300 and comes in walnut. Here's another one (were you looking at the mahogany or the white?

71". All these are less than $400. Another option is putting a floor lamp in the corner at the end of console and keeping the console décor at a minimum. If you are interested in any photos, let me know I can give you sources.

I would move the mirrors farther out (they are too close to the TV) and down. I think they are too high. Perhaps remove the wreath above the TV also. NICE room though.

Saw your latest photo of tables removed and definitely need a longer console and to move mirrors. I would wait until you get a new one (if you do) before moving mirrors and considering new lamps. Those wires are not a big deal, I think you can get casings for them and paint them same as wall and they disappear. So I've been told :>)

Antonia 1 , you have a beautiful home and lovely furniture! It has such a wonderful warm and inviting feeling. I can see why you want the mirrors there but I just don't think they work there. It would be nice to see a piece of furniture with some height there. More of a built in look with shelves. You have such nice things, the TV just stuck on the wall doesn't seem to be the look here.

Just wanted to add I am pretty sure your box for Bose system is supposed to be aimed at the wall not away. We have the same one the bass is supposed to reflect against wall. Lol just noticed see if it makes a difference with the sound. I think room looks great!

Looks so much better! What do you think? The biggest difference was removing the extra end tables. I actually like the mirrors where they are but I agree that you'll probably need to move them if you mount the TV. I like the TV as it is now. I would just replace the decor above the TV with a big picture. Then it will look like a gallery wall and the TV will just blend in. If you want to preview how it will look, try hanging the fireplace pic above the TV. I would also remove the decor from the TV stand. The shell may fit behind the glass doors of your TV stand. This will just give it a cleaner look.

Stacy could be right about the bass box---I'm a little sketchy on the physics of this stuff---but my own understanding is that that type of unit can be placed anywhere in the room, including behind furniture. The waves of higher sounds move directly, so you have to keep treble speakers unobstructed and pointed toward the listener. On the other hand, low-frequency sounds--the types handled by your bass unit---are waves with broad oscillations that move around furniture quite handily, which means you might be able to hide the box somewhere in the room and never have to look at it at all. If I were you, I'd get the family together and experiment with the placement.

It's all too much. Mirrors may reflect the ocean but they don't look right. You have large windows to observe the view--do people really look in the mirrors if they want to see the ocean or do they look out the window?

Paint the tv stand off white, take down the mirrors. they dont work, now that i realize they just reflect the tree in the back, they really dont do you any justice to an otherwise awesome room.
will you take them down just so we can see..

I can't see the whole fireplace wall, but you may be able to flank the fireplace with those mirrors. They are great mirrors, but they do not work flanking your t.v. It just throws everything off.

Can you post a pic of the fireplace wall?

I live here and can tell you that the mirror on the left reflects only the trees, but the mirror on the right reflects the water. With all the seating facing away from the window and toward the TV it is nice to be able to see the water while sitting. Many of you seem quite bothered by the mirrors. I'll post a picture without them when I am able. Attached is a photo of the fireplace wall. There is not room on either side for the mirrors. If placed there, they would reflect the kitchen.

What did you think of my suggestion to hang a large pic/art above the TV?

Antonia, I like the mirrors. Leave them on that wall. I am not sure either why so many are bothered by them, but I don't see a problem. IMO, wait until you decide on a console and then adjust them if needed. Maybe I'm crazy but when I looked at that wall in 1st photo, I saw a window to the outside.

Have you considered a smaller coffee table? One that is not so deep. That may give you a few additional inches. If budget ever allows, buy a couple of swivel chairs (they do make very nice upholstered ones) so you can view tv or water.

In either of Grover's pics, the mirrors line perfectly with the bottom of the art on the fireplace wall and also makes a connection with the console. Much better.
