It's a gorgeous kitchen, and the cabinets are what make it. Give yourself some time to learn to appreciate them.

Thank you so much for your replies. Cook Remodeling, those are some great ideas, thank you. They cabinets very well could be hickory. What type of backsplash would you go with? I was thinking subway tiles?

I agree with painting the moldings white. You can always use a pop of color on the island alone. It wouldn't cost as much doing all of the cabinets. Maybe the green on the buffet and paint your green chairs to match...or a soft white. Have you thought about just putting a punchy table cloth on the table in the kitchen or art work on the wall by the table.

It also looks like room off of the kitchen is blue. Did you paint that? Are you planning on keeping that color? We moved into our house in January.

At some point there will be some remodeling of the kitchen (layout so it will be costly) and dining room. But before I make a major decision, I need to live in it a while. Don't make hasty decisions...they can end up costing a fortune. I like subway tiles, they are reflective, easy to clean, and a safe choice.

Rochelleslp, thanks for your reply. These are actually the pictures from the listing.:) we are painting the dining room a deep grey and will be getting new stools for the island.

I do believe your "oak" cabinets are indeed hickory, which is a beautiful wood. If you played to hickory's more rustic nature and accented it with oil rubbed bronze hardware (which would tie in nicely with the existing countertop), you might like them more.

Have you considered changing other elements, such as the flooring or light fixtures? You might find that a richer floor color might help ground the cabinetry.

Industrial light fixtures might also help to really set off the cabinetry and tie everything together.

The square tile and light fixtures look dated. City Cabinet has a good idea with going industrial. Swap out light fixtures and if flooring is too difficult to do now, find some colorful rugs to put down.

Also, like hayleydaniels said, go slow. You will most likely change your mind several times in the next year.

The current color looks great with your beautiful cabinets! Please.....no gray walls!!! The current color allows so many more options! I agree about getting rid of the floor tile and light fixtures. Once you add your own artwork you will have a fabulous place!
