We take them out all the time. One of those things that never gets used.

Had one in our previous house, that had been put in by the builder. We never used it.

We have one and use it all the time. It is a great place to put items that you want to remember to take out to the car with you. (Ours is right next to the door that goes to the garage.). I like mine.

When our daughter was 6-13 years old, we liked that she sat at the computer in the kitchen. We had an idea of what she was doing on it plus she was with us instead of in her bedroom. Now we don't really use it.

It will die there over time....find a fabulous desk and you can move it around as your life changes. It will become a catch all I have found.

Ours looked inviting. But the chair blocked the walkway. So we repurposed it as a coffee bar.

We think it's a great idea! You're able to sit down and write your grocery list while still being around the family.

Yes, if you have a ton of space, I like the idea of it just off the kitchen area. In the last couple years we've seen some really nice looking ones in parade homes. One in the picture here looks way too crowded and closed in for me. I think it's a great place to pay bills, with a laptop or iPad there (& could put a lock on the drawer so private). Also nice to have child doing homework there, where someone could be nearby to help them if needed.

I agree it is always nice if you have the space!

Yes if you will actually use it AND can keep it tidy.

We moved into a house with one. Two years later it was the paper gathering spot. Looked to messy. We installed a pullout double door pantry. Love it and haven't missed the desk.

We almost always take them out in renovations. It makes a great space for a wine cooler :)

Desks in the kitchen were all the rage in the late 60s and early 70s. To me it is a seriously "dated" feature. Kitchens have islands and peninsulas and everyone has laptops, etc... Waste of space unless you have a huge kitchen and can hide it as in the one pictured.

These days I use a portable desk- it is a laptop one but you can open it up and inside you can fits notebooks, it has compartments for pens, notebooks and laptop ( or ipad ) . I put everything in here now and take it to the kitchen. It has legs you can take out if needed, I just put it on the kitchen table though. Having said that, I think it fine to have an assigned place if you can.

Standing desk in kitchen. Love it because I can bounce over to computer, stapler, run thru kids papers while I'm waiting for the kettle to boil... but I also am feeding a family of four, so I LIVE in the kitchen.
