Who is up for a challenge? Cattleya recommendation!

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a cattleya recommendation! Here are the criterias....so very strict...and in order of importance.

1) must be fragrant-must not just be faint. The stronger the better. Love floral, sweet, or fruity. Not a big one for spicy or clove like fragrance. This is a must! Must be fragrant, fragrant, fragrant....

2) ideally compact- does not have to be miniature or very compact, but not a huge one either (need to fit onto my windowsill haha)

3) ideally easy grower- vigorous grower, blooms readily, flowers 2x per year.- ok, ok...I am ok if it flowers only once...but I can wish!

4) not super hard to find...

Also.....can it be floofy too? Is that asking for too much? A fragrant, compact, easy, floofy cattleya? If not floofy that's ok...as long it's is pretty and cute!

Thanks for any recommendations! Greatly appreciate any tips!

Just to share an eye candy of mine, it fits most of the above except strong fragrance and floofy...it is very faint...of roses and fruit punch. lc. Tropical pointer 'cheetah'

Walkeriana and Luteola are small and fragrant.

Rhyncholaelia glauca and Rhyncholaelia digbyana are also small and fragrant.

Not much of a challenge. B. nodosa for perfume at night. C. Lulu for perfume during sunny days.

Haha, I am so glad there are more experienced people like you all! For a beginner it is very hard to decide which orchid to get with those characteristics!

I have a B. nodosa, but it's fragrance is sort of more on the spicy/clove-like sides.

I absolutely adore the large beautiful flowers of cattleyas so really want to get just ONE perfect catt.

I don' t think there is one perfect catt, I would say 12 is the minimum number. Then you see something like shavedmonkey's picture above and the minimum number changes to 13.

Hehe...I already got a Greenwich! But it has not bloomed for me yet.

Slc Valentine Todd. This plant also fits the bill. I think I have more than one and would consider a trade...It will be blooming soon so I will see if I have more than one...An old picture above.

Omg, that is a beaut! Would love a trade, but considering I am a beginner in growing orchid, I don't have much to offer. I am not sure I have anything you may be interested. I am pretty exclusive in growing fragrant plants. So I do have a lot of regular plants that grow in soil? Brunfelsia americana, jasmine belle of India etc.

Might I recommend checking out Sunset Valley Orchids? They're doing some hefty Catt hybridizing using award winning parents and have lots to show for it. Plus they're affordable!

In any case, if you're looking for suggestions right here and now, I'd go with an Iwanagara Appleblossom. I personally don't have one, but it's compact and is highly regarded as one of best fragranced Catts you can buy with very nice flower and a "must have". I've been looking for a good priced one blooming sized one but haven't found one yet. BEST OF LUCK! Catts are forgiving!
