Painting Stucco - Help with Problem!

last modified: 11 years ago

I'm rolling paint (Aura flat) over stucco. It is not that super rough troweled-on stucco, but is more like nubs all over it. So it's kinda rough, but not real rough. I am using a 3/4 nap roller for semi-rough to rough surfaces (Purdy Golden Eagle). I roll it on and make sure to get really good coverage. It looks perfect when wet and evenly covered. But then as it dries, it gets little pin holes all over it. Not everywhere, but in numerous areas. This is happening with my second coat, too.

Am I doing something wrong or does this normally happen on stucco? I am not thrilled with the idea of putting on a third coat, especially at Aura prices! I am regretting not using a primer but I was assured at Ben Moore that I didn't need one.

Advice?
