Can you live with real life patina?

i'm sorry i can't answer how much it was, as it was part of a whole redo; not more than marble certainly tho! there is a whole thread about LG rococo, maybe you can find mention of cost there.

The downfall of marble is that it is soft. It WILL scratch easily, It WILL stain easily and it WILL bother you. I've found that my customers who wanted marble and ended up going with granite were extremely happy. Almost all marble customers wish they would have went granite or manufactured stone. As a fabricator I love working with marble as it shines up so easily, but I push customer away as it is one of the more problematic stones. As far as cost, your lg man made stone is close to the cost of a group 3 granite or a higher end marble.

Pros and cons of each include:

Marble; soft, weaker stone that is more liable to show traffic, must be sealer ATLEAST once a year. Will show fabrication process if not done on C&C (bumps or wiggles in edge) Lower cost is the only pro I have

Granite; depending on type, very hard, strong and durable. Will stand up to the heavy traffic homes. Thousands of options in color and movement. Granite for every price range. Cons, must be sealed, fabricated and installed properly for it to be durable and last.

Man made stones; very strong and durable, does not need sealer. Comes with warranty (depending on manufacturer) low visibility to non existent seams.

Cons; not as many options for color or pattern. Surface problems are much harder to fix (scratches, chips, cracks)

Average cost in my area for lg ranges from $80-$130 sq/ft

Sophie wheeler, that patina is an easy fix on marble. Get with your fabricator and if he is at all skilled, he can fix that in under a half hour. If not let me know and I can give you a quick DIY on small problem areas like that.

thanks for the info, psdcs. as i said it was part of a large redo, and frankly, once i saw the LG rococo i didnt care how much it cost. my kitchen just isnt that big so i knew it wouldnt make me go broke.

i had half planned to do marble on my baking area and granite on the rest, but i still fretted a guest would set down a red wine bottle and leave a ring when i didnt see. i dont like to growl and prowl during a party. i much prefer no worry surfaces.
